The World’s Weirdest Them Park Rides

July 28th, 2010

Recently, Popular Mechanics put together a list of the 18 strangest rides in the world, and Zero Gravity’s Nothin’ but Net free fall ride made the list, proving that it’s not just one of the most fun things to do in Dallas, but in the world.  What can we say? We set our sights high.

In noting why our ride’s unique, Popular Mechanics mentioned the specially designed harness that’s meant to ensure riders land on their backs, and also wrote:

Being dropped from 100 feet is such a terrifying experience that Chess Stetson of the California Institute of Technology and colleagues used the tower in a study aimed at determining how humans perceive the passage of time during frightening events.

Having fun and helping science is all just a day’s work at Zero Gravity. For those who haven’t experienced the Nothin’ but Net ride yet, it goes something like this:

We lift you to the top of our 16-story tower, and then we simply drop you.  No bungee cord, no parachute, no straps.  Just you, hurtling toward the safety net. Of course, safety is our primary concern, so we employ a patented release system that ensures you fall in a low center of gravity position and land on your back. Your landing is supported by two stunt-quality safety nets secured with reinforced rigging. In fact, the landing is so smooth, you will hardly even notice that you just fell from 130 feet.

Sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it?

Zero Gravity Featured in USA Today!

July 15th, 2010

About.com already knows that visiting Zero Gravity is one of the most fun things to do in Dallas.  And now USAToday.com does too!  USAToday.com recently featured Zero Gravity in their travel section, offering a nice overview of our park, plus plenty of bungee jumping specifics.  Some highlights:

Zero Gravity’s seven-story Air Boingo tower is designed specifically for bungee jumping…Once ready, take in the view of nearby downtown Dallas before taking the plunge.

That’s right.  Only the best for our faithful jumpers.

Zero Gravity enlists three safety measures to keep people jumping without incident.

It’s true.  Your safety is important to us.

If bungee jumping isn’t enough to satiate a visitor’s hunger for thrills, the park features four additional rides, each geared toward the extreme rides enthusiast.

Also true.  As awesome as bungee jumping is, we’ve got something for everyone.

Texas Giant Closed for Renovations

July 8th, 2010

If you haven’t heard the news, or seen the construction yourself, you might be disappointed to learn that popular Dallas attraction, the Texas Giant, is still closed for renovations.  And it will remain closed until 2011, when it will reopen at Six Flags following $10 million worth of repairs.

The new-and-improved Texas Giant will feature a top speed of 65 mph, plus the steepest drop in the world at 79 degrees and the steepest bank of any wooden roller coaster at 95 degrees.  Add in the smoothness of the new track, and the Giant should be fun again. In recent years, as other roller coasters improved, the Giant seemed a rough and lumbering relic.

Of course, 2011 is still a long way off, so until then, swing by Zero Gravity. Our Texas Blastoff ride goes zero to 70 in just 1.2 seconds (5 mph faster than the Giant.  Just saying.)  And we’re still offering our Four Ride Thrillseeker Combo, giving you one of the most fun things to do in Dallas, all at a really great price.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Opens in Orlando

June 28th, 2010

It’s no secret that Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park is one of the most fun things to do in Dallas, but what if you’re in Orlando?  Sure, there are the tried-and-true Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios, but the newest park to the mix is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, now open.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located at the Islands of Adventure theme park, part of the Universal Orlando resort.  The 20-acre island offers guests a chance to visit Hogwarts castle and Hogsmeade village, among other popular spots from the best-selling series.

Rides and attractions include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which takes guests through scenes inspired by the books and movies; Dragon Challenge, which is two intertwining high-speed roller coasters; and Flight of the Hippogriff.

Sounds like a good time.  And regardless of whether you make it to Orlando this summer, we’re happy to entertain you with our own thrilling rides, like Bungee Jumping, Texas Blastoff and Nothin’ But Net.

Bungee Jump with Zero Gravity at the San Diego County Fair

June 14th, 2010

In addition to all the fun things to do in Dallas here at Zero Gravity, for the next few weeks we’ve also got the west coast covered. We are operating a 130 foot bungee jump at the San Diego County Fair through July 5th, and any faithful fans who visit us in San Diego can jump for half the price!  So if you’re in the area, or are interested in more moderate temperatures this summer, stop by the San Diego County Fair to say hello.  Simply say “go jump” to our staff to receive your discount.

The jump will be manned by our expertly-trained Dallas staff, who also supports our presence at other major events like the Texas State Fair and Calgary Stampede.

The 2010 San Diego County Fair opened June 11 and runs through Monday, July 5. The fair will be closed on three Mondays — June 14, 21 and 28.  Admission gates open at 11:00 a.m. on weekdays, and at 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Monday, July 5.  Gates close at 10:00 p.m. on weeknights and at 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

We’d love to see you in San Diego, but if you can’t make it, come jump with us here in Dallas and take advantage of our online-only Four Ride Thrillseeker Combo package.

Jump Off the Stratosphere in Las Vegas

June 11th, 2010

If you’ve ever wanted to hurl yourself off an 830 foot building, you’re in luck.  The Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel & Casino launched the New Zealand-designed “SkyJump” in April 2010, allowing visitors to jump from a platform overlooking the Vegas strip.

This is not bungee jumping, but a controlled descent while attached to guide wires that run from the platform to the ground.  Riders reach speeds of about 40 mph before the contraption slows you down 20 feet above the landing platform.  The whole thing takes about 15 seconds, and it costs $100.

If you can’t make it out to Vegas, don’t have $100 or value your life too much to jump from 850 feet, we’ll let you jump off our bungee platform here in Dallas for a fraction of the cost.  It’s one of the most fun things to do in Dallas, and unlike a trip to the Stratosphere, you won’t walk away with gambling debts.

Check out the below video for some info and action shots.

About.com Likes Zero Gravity

June 8th, 2010

About.com knows that visiting Zero Gravity is one of the most fun things to do in Dallas.  Arthur Levine, the About.com Theme Parks Guide, had this to say about Zero Gravity in a recent review:

Forget about carousels and cute walkaround characters at this Dallas, Texas park. Zero Gravity is a unique thrill park designed exclusively for extreme adrenaline junkies. The five rides include diabolical contraptions such as Nothin’ but Net in which daredevils are lifted 130 feet in the air and then dropped–without a harness, parachute, or nothin’ else–into a net.

Sounds about right.  From the Nothin’ but Net to bungee jumping to gliding through the air on the Skycoaster, there’s no better place to get your adrenaline fix.

Read Levine’s full review to see why Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park really is one of the best attractions in Dallas.
